Success at Huntsman World Senior Games

Congratulations are extended to the President, Dr Raymond Forde and George Grant from the Association for their performances at the 2012 Huntsman World Senior Games held in St George, Utah, USA last week with both players representing Barbados in the tennis event for the second successive year.

Having won bronze medals in their respective singles events in 2011, the effervescent duo, who are regular players on the local senior circuit transformed to gold this year.

Winning their events in contrasting fashion, George, who was unseeded in the 60s age group as no ITF ranking events are held locally, beat the No 4 and 2 seeds on his way to the final but was taken to the wire by the No 3 seeded Californian Russell Smith before winning the title in a very close 3 setter 6-7(4),6-3,10-8.

Dr Forde, seeded No 2 in the 55s, beat the No 1 seed David Cox (Utah), who had won the event for the past 3 years 6-3, 6-2 after trailing 1-3 in the first set.

In the 50s doubles, the pairing who were unseeded in the event, came from 4-5 behind in both sets, to beat the No 2 seeds from Utah Roger Russell and Rick Whittington 7-5, 7-5 in the final.

Congrats again seniors!!
