DARIAN KING is the first Barbadian to win the Barbados Junior International (ITF) Championships in its 14 year history. He did it in fine style where he opposed and defeated his doubles partner Jamaican Brandon Burke in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.
Amongst the girls, 14 year old Nadia Echeverria, a Venezuelan born qualifier representing the United Sates, convincingly won the Singles championship over another young American, Denise Starr, 6-2, 6-1.

The 2009 Barbados Junior International ITF Circuit Grade 4 tournament runs from Monday March 30, 2009 - Saturday April 4, 2009, with qualifying rounds starting Saturday March 28, 2009.

Players are reminded that the Qualifying sign in for Under 18s and all Under 14 players will be held between 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm this Friday March 27 at the National Tennis Centre.
Please remember to bring entry fee and your passport or ID card.
The U18s Qualies will be played on Saturday March 28 and Sunday March 29 from 9.00 am at the Tennis Centre.
The Under 14s Round Robin will also start on Saturday March 28 from 9.00 am at Club Rockley.
The Main Draw sign in for the Under 18s will be on Sunday March 29 between 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm

The Opening Ceremony is on Monday March 30 at 8.30 am at the Tennis Centre - all players must attend. Remember to wear your tournament shirt.
Mark Cox, one of Britain’s most successful professional and amateur tennis players up to the 1980s, took time out from his recent vacation in Barbados to visit the National Tennis Centre to meet local juniors and coaches, as well as to observe exciting and hard hitting tournament play at Ocean View Tennis Club.
Now a regular BBC Wimbledon commentator and summarizer, Mark continues to be heavily involved with junior tennis development in Britain, and was impressed by the vast numbers of youngsters participating in coaching schemes here as well as their high standard of play at practice and tournament level.
