Despite the first loss on home soil, the Barbados Tennis Association is extremely proud of the fantastic performance of our Davis Cup team of Darian King, Haydn Lewis, Seanon Williams and Russell Moseley, together with captain Kevin Yarde, in their Davis Cup tie against the Dominican Republic.
In their debut appearance in Group I of the Americas Zone played at the National Tennis Centre over the past weekend (March 6-8) the team fought well but narrowly lost two matches to three.
We applaud the effort guys!
Additionally, we would like to thank the Team Sponsor, Powerade; the Domestic Clothing Sponsor, Gildan; and the Peter Moores Barbados Trust for their contributions as well as the many other local companies, agencies and individuals who assisted us in hosting the tie.
Our sincere appreciation and thanks also go out to all the supporters and tennis fans who turned out to see this historic event and to all volunteers, ball-boys and girls and officials who made it happen.
The Barbados team must now await the result of a 2nd round July 17-19 tie to determine if their relegation play-off match will be against Ecuador or Uruguay with the venue and date also still to be determined.
